The Return of the Automat
Howdy!
More proof that if you wait long enough, absolutely everything will come back in style. Or perhaps all you have to do is wait 20 years for the revival...
Back when I was a child, Horn & Hardart were a new York City staple. For those of you not lucky enough to have been born early enough last century in NYC of Philadelphia, they were the Automat. Basically, a vending machine cleverly disguised as a restaurant.
Well according to this press release, A+W is installing what they are calling "self-order kiosks."
Sounds like an Automat to me. Heck I might even try one...

Details on owning an A+W franchise on the South Shore
Howdy!
Back in May, I posted about an A+W franchise that was for sale. Now it appears that there is another A+W up for sale.
But what I like about this ad, is that it specifies that they have gross sales of $1.1 million, pay royalties of 6% and that their earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization are $157 thousand.
Hmmm... the pros of owning a profitable business, versus the cons of owning afast food quick service restaurant on the South Shore.

The headline says it all, Brenda thought her Bitchin' Kitchen's Hawaiian Burger was "fairly dry with not a lot of flavour."
I would ask some tough questions of her butcher and watch her cooking technique closely before I said the words "dry," and "flavorless."

CBC's Homerun piles on the burger train
Howdy!
Yesterday, the powers that be at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation decided to spend the afternoon talking about burgers on the radio. I'm not certain if I can get a dub of the show (they emailed me asking if I could participate, but unfortunately I was unable to do so) but their Twitter Feed and the posts to their Facebook page remain.
For the record these are the burger joints that made it on to the internet (wih addresses): Steerburger Tous Les Jours, 1689 Mont-Royal E; Le Gourmet Burger, 1433B Bishop; Five Guys, 54 Cite des Jeunes, Vaudreuil; Frites Alors!, multiple locations; La Paryse, 302 Ontario E; l’Auberge du Dragon Rouge, 8870 Lajeunesse; Les Belles-Soeurs, 2251 Marie Anne E; Dilallo, multiple locations; l'Anecdote, ; Mr. Steer, 1198 Sainte Catherine W.
And while I'm at it, I do not understand why Homerun insists on using Facebook. Facebook is an American company that makes money by selling advertising. The Homerun is a Canadian radio show that for the most part doesn't have any advertising. Why they want to send internet traffic to Facebook so that that Facebook can make money (especially when the CBC is constantly complaining about not having enough money) is beyond me. [End of Rant]

Episode 65: Five Guys [12:00]
(Download:
MP3 10MB / FLAC 65MB / Ogg Vorbis 7MB / Stream)
(or play it here)
In today's episode Chris Zeke Hand and Ryk E Coli Edelstein continue their visit to the very first Five Guys restaurant in Quebec, which is at the end of the earth, otherwise known as Vaudreuil.
The voices you will hear are those of Ross the manager, and then Caleb and Wayne the two partners in the franchise. Last week, in Episode 64 of the Montreal Burger Report Wayne and Caleb eloquently explained how they met playing ice hockey in Israel. In this episode, Ross, Caleb and Wayne all patiently explain to Zeke and E Coli how they will achieve nirvana, become euphoric and ecstatic upon eating a Five Guys burger. Apparently there are more than 5 trillion 230 billion different ways you can get your burger at Five Guys.
The conversation veers towards the French Fries and how they are made. Zeke and E Coli discover that the potatoes used to make the French Fries they will eat are from Rigby, Idaho and are made from Russet Burbank potatoes. The Russet Burbank potato is a large brown-skinned, white-fleshed cultivar of potato. It is commonly used in French fries in fast food restaurants. Luther Burbank developed the Burbank potato in Lunenburg, Massachusetts, in the early 1870s. In 1875 he sold the rights to his potato for $150, and moved to Santa Rosa, California. The Russet Burbank is the most common potato variety grown in Idaho. And there are close to 4,000 different varieties of potato. In general, varieties are categorized into a few main groups, such as russets, reds, whites, yellows (also called Yukons) and purples. And in case you were wondering, it is 3,663 km from Rigby Idaho to Vaudreuil. (From Wikipedia)

Aladdin And The Cave of Cheeseburgers
Howdy!
OK, I'm really, really late on this one... it's from 2007 and has already been watched about a million times - but whatever - I hadn't seen it until yesterday. Apologies if you've already watched it and got the t-shirt. However, if you haven't, it's hilarious!
If you'd like to see the other five parts, follow this link, ok?
